Cultural Exchange Suffers from Major Flooding
The flooding unfortunately resulted in the Cultural Exchange being forced to move concerts and events this past weekend. Currently personnel are doing everything possible to repair the damages and move forward with business as usual. The power has been fully restored to both venues in the Complex and clean up crews are working around the clock to insure the Complex can reopen the moment the water break is repaired. At present time no other events have been cancelled or moved.
The Cultural Exchange is often perceived by the community as a bar or nightclub, but in fact it is a non-profit arts organization with charitable status committed to providing opportunities for emerging artists and presenting some of the world's most acclaimed performers. The Cultural Exchange has also provided programs that include a fiddle camp, sending fiddlers to the northern communities, and a workshop tour that sends working artists into rural and northern communities, allowing students to work first hand with professional artists. The Cultural Exchange is one of the longest running all ages venues in the country. With that said, the financial security of the organization has never been comfortable.
In the 27 year history of the organization, Cultural Exchange has delivered programming and managed constant growth despite limited budgets. However, the loss of business due to last weekend's closures and the costs incurred with the flooding have presented a long term impact on the financial status of the organization. The Cultural Exchange is currently accepting cash donations to aid in the flood relief. All donations of $20 and up will recieve a charitable tax receipt. Donations may be sent to SCES, 2431 8th Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4R 5J7 or dropped off in person at the office.
