Workshop Tour 2009 Team
The Cultural Exchange Worshop Tour team consists of 4 workshop leaders and an experienced tour manager offering up to 18 workshops a day, adaptable for all ages - levels k-12.The Cultural Exchange was proud to present its Workshop Tour Troupe to schools across Saskatchewan from the north to the south. The troupe this year features an eceletic mix of Saskatchewan artists who are multi talented and multi skilled. They will be focu on specific skills as they present their workshops to the youth of Saskatchewan. New this year will be an online Troupe 2009 blog edited by tour manager, Dakota McFadzean. Participating schools and students will be invited to describe their responses to the various workshops presented in their schools on the blog. Dakota McFadzean – Troupe Manager
Dakota is currently working with the Saskatchewan Arts Board as an Administration Coordinator and will soon be applying to the Centre for Cartoon Studies in Vermont . Dakota is also an experienced improv leader and will offer a choice of two workshops to those schools who book the tour.
Jeff Morton – Music Faciliator
Jeff is a composer/audio artist, jazz, improvising and electro acoustic musician with a Masters in Music Composition, University of Victoria. He has toured with Trio Morton Robin Grosse, performed and conducted for a dance performance choreographed by Bill Coleman and provided technical support for installations at the McKenzie Art Gallery. Jeff’s workshop is titled Microphonics – an electro-acoustic music composition workshop creating sound through sound surface microphones. This workshop has very exciting potential for students of all ages.
Alvin Keller – Hop Hop Performer
Alvin has performed across northern Saskatchewan bringing his messages of music and dance to a number of communities. His enthusiasm for his craft knows no bounds and his dance moves will astound. Best of all he breaks down the most complicated steps so that even beginners will be styling with the best of them at the end of a 50 minute session. Alvin brings messages of the importance of personal wellbeing as an important part of the dancer’s tool kit to workshop participants.
Lee Boyes - Drama Faciltator
Lee began his career in high school as an improvisor, and soon fell in love with the art form. Once graduating from Miller Comprehensive, he went back to high school improv as a coach, where he lead 2 provincial championship teams over a 3 year period. Graduating in 2004 with a B.F.A. in theatre performance, Lee has continued acting and directing professionally, with such plays as The Pillowman & My Name is Racheal Corrie, both with Hectik theatre. He has since applied his skills to film and television, as assistant director of the series Crime Stories, as well as acting and writing in his own projects. Currently he is working on developing a one man improv show, and trying his hand at stand up comedy. He is workshop is focused on giving kids the basic improv skills that will further their development in all forms of performance.
Jonah McFadzean – Visual Arts Facilitater
Jonah, brother to Dakota, is a talented passionate cartoonist who brings his passion for characterization to his cartooning efforts. In Jonah’s words cartooning is based on the inference of an idea or thought and the viewer’s translation of that inference to convey emotion, humor and passion. Jonah’s workshop will concentrate on the technique and skill development of the beginning cartoonist to translate emotion into the cartoon world.
